All except the last of these books are by a favorite author of mine: Donna Andrews. Her books You've Got Murder, Click Here for Murder, Access Denied and Delete All Suspects are re-reads. They feature Turing Hopper an AIP (Artificial Intelligence Personality) as the sleuth, aided by her human friends Tim and Maude. An interesting premise and both believable and enjoyable. The series seems to have stopped at four books although another is hinted at .
The Sexiest Dead Man Alive by Jane Blackwood is a romantic comedy. An OK read.

The Voyage by David Drake
A hard SF by an author I've read before. On some of his books he bases his plots on mythological stories. This one is a riff on the Argonauts. Of its nature a little episodic. Not a bad read but I'm not to fond of stories where anything goes as long as it gets you what you want. Even if you feel bad about it latter.

We'll Try This Again
I finally figured out (I'm a little slow sometimes) that the reason I let the book list pile up was because I found the idea of commenting on every book and author and researching and posting links to be a chore.
Then it dawned on me that if you (the hypothetical reader of this journal) wanted to know more about an author all they had to do was google them. Well duh!
So I'm not going to do that any more. At least not often.
Strong Spirits by Alice Duncan

Their web site is here: www.korval.com/ Fledgling started out life as an experiment in reader supported web serialization.The story was posted week by week as it was written and as long as donations kept coming. The book was finished with more left over for another book! As presented on line it was the first draft of a book that might never appear on dead trees. It has made it to print and is well worth reading. You don't have to have read the first draft to enjoy this Liaden side story. The "left over parts" will be published as Saltation next year. (This was also serialized.) The story line is scheduled to rejoin the main Liaden universe plot line in a future book Ghost Ship.

Mercy Thompson: Homecoming (Graphic novel) Patricia Briggs. My age is showing here I think. When I was a kid I devoured comic books just as fast as the regular kind. (This was more than 50 years ago.) I found this book a bit disappointing. The story was OK, and I love the author's books but... Possibly it was the difference in style between multiple illustrators. Or may be just because that wasn't how I pictured Mercy. The tattoos Mercy had, which changed with the illustrator didn't help.

Catching up a little sooner
I'm posting this a little sooner than usual. Partly because I'm trying out a new posting tool. I hope it will make it easier to include authors links.
I'm not quite sure one of the Mercedes Lackey books but the rest are first time reads with some new and some favorite authors.

She develops an interest in the world of nature and is aided by her grandfather, a veteran of the Civil War. A very good period piece
Talboys (short story) by Dorothy L Sayers. A brief return of Lord Peter, solving a mystery that involves his son. See the last post for Sayer's links,

The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall His web site i9s here: http://tarquinhall.com/ In my last post I mentioned a mystery featuring Inspector Ghote. A mystery set in India. Ghote is a policeman. Vish Puri on the other hand is a PI living in a more modern India (best guess about 20 later) and in some way a more disturbing India.
The Nine Pound Hammer by John Claude Bemis This is another YA book but a fantasy loosely based on American folklore. The title refers to John Henry's hammer. The add on I was using is called Deepest Sender
. It seems to have worked very well. Since it works in a separate window I didn't have my usual problem of forgetting to change tabs before looking up links. LJ does recover (usually) but somethings, like tags disappear. Only complaint is I can't use Firefox's zoom capabilities. These books are all most all re-reads. I have a vague recollection that I couldn't find some of these the first time I started reading them. I couldn't tell you which though. It was a long time ago. I enjoyed reading them again. Fair warning. These books are set in the 1920's 30's and early 40's. They were also written during that time frame. More in a series! Oh Joy!
As usual I've let this list grow way to long. These books share two characteristics, they are usually by a favorite author and they are (not coincidentally) part of a series. Since the list is long I'm not sure how much I'll be commenting.
Too Many Curses by A Lee Martinez His web site is here: http://www.aleemartinez.com/ This is intended to be a comedic fantasy. It is funny in spots but the author suffers from a sever case of how-cute-can-I-get-itis. The last book I read by this author was the same way. The general story idea was great but one of the books curses is the details.
The High City by Cecelia Holland Her web site is here: http://www.thefiredrake.com/novels.html A favorite author who stopped writing for quite a while. A nicely detailed look at one of the better emperors who succeeded Constantine the Great.
Mischief 24/7 by Kasey Michaels. Her web site is here: http://www.kaseymichaels.com/ This is the last of the Sunshine girls mysteries. The eldest of the sisters brings the last two mysteries to a conclusion and copes with an ex-husband who still loves her. Note: there will almost certainly be a follow up story with the same characters. The original mystery is solved in this book.
Linda Lael Miller's new series Montana Creeds: Logan. Her web site is here: http://www.lindalaelmiller.com/ Logan's back home to put down roots and live down the Creed reputation. A divorcée with two young boys looks like a good bet for the roots part but then her ex shows up.
Dead and Berried by Karen MacInerney Her web site is here: http://www.karenmacinerney.com/ The second of three Gray Whale Inn mystery, read out of order. That meant dealing with spoilers mentioned in the third book. Still a good read though.
Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle, Her web site is here: http://www.coffeehousemystery.com/ Another Coffee House mystery. Clare gets her ex-married off, but its a struggle to keep somebody from offing the bride. Just goes to show: enough caffeine can solve anything.
Imager by L E Modesitt, Jr His web site is here: http://www.lemodesittjr.com/ An new fantasy series by this author. I like some of his work but not others. This was an enjoyable read even if parts of the dialog were a little to agenda driven.
A Body to Die For by G A McKevett. This is a pen name for Sonja Massie. A quirky cast of favorite characters. Savannah has plenty of Southern charm but if that wont work she'll slap you side of the head with her gun.

A Face in the Window by Sarah Graves. A mystery set in Eastport, Maine. Graves web site is here: http://www.randomhouse.com/bantamdell/graves/index.html An exotic local this isn't, but very good stories. Much darker than most of the series but enjoyable reading.
Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce Her web site is here: http://www.tamora-pierce.com/ This is the second of her books about Becca Cooper. Rated as YA but don't let that stop you from reading both books.
Revenge of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz. Her web site is here: http://lisalutz.com/ Those wacky Spellmans are back. Proving once again that the family that detects together is in serious trouble.
Grave Goods by Ariana Franklin. Her web site is here: http://www.arianafranklin.com/ This is the third in the Mistress of the Art of Death series. A fascinating time in history, an engaging heroine and an English King, Henry II who really needs Arthur to be dead.

Another in the Maise Dobb's stories. Life moves on for Maise even as a spectacular suicide is the start of serious trouble for London. Terrorists are NOT a new thing.

The Forthcoming Wizard by Jody Lynn Nye Her web site is here: http://www.sff.net/people/JodyNye/ The second book about wizard in training Tildi. A smallfolk who is neither small of heart or power. A Maker is searching for the Book. Will he find it before Tildi and her friends find him.
Storm Glass by Maria V Snyder Her web site is here: http://www.mariavsnyder.com/ This is set in the same world of magic as the Study series but with a different focus character. Glass has many magical properties.

This is an Honorverse book. That is, its set in the same universe with many of the same characters as the Honor Harrington series. She does make some brief appearances but this book focuses on Michele "Mike" Henke, and the thickening Manpower plot. (Note if you've not been keeping track this is only the 5th male author on this list.)
Undone by Rachel Caine This is her web site. http://www.rachelcaine.com/Home.html This is set in her weather warden universe. It focuses on different characters and seems to be running parallel to Ill Wind. A new series, a good read, but seriously now a pink haired, albino, former djinn biker chick?.

Mischief 24/7 by Kasey Michaels. Her web site is here: http://www.kaseymichaels.com/ This is the last of the Sunshine girls mysteries. The eldest of the sisters brings the last two mysteries to a conclusion and copes with an ex-husband who still loves her. Note: there will almost certainly be a follow up story with the same characters. The original mystery is solved in this book.
Linda Lael Miller's new series Montana Creeds: Logan. Her web site is here: http://www.lindalaelmiller.com/ Logan's back home to put down roots and live down the Creed reputation. A divorcée with two young boys looks like a good bet for the roots part but then her ex shows up.
Dead and Berried by Karen MacInerney Her web site is here: http://www.karenmacinerney.com/ The second of three Gray Whale Inn mystery, read out of order. That meant dealing with spoilers mentioned in the third book. Still a good read though.
Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle, Her web site is here: http://www.coffeehousemystery.com/ Another Coffee House mystery. Clare gets her ex-married off, but its a struggle to keep somebody from offing the bride. Just goes to show: enough caffeine can solve anything.
Imager by L E Modesitt, Jr His web site is here: http://www.lemodesittjr.com/ An new fantasy series by this author. I like some of his work but not others. This was an enjoyable read even if parts of the dialog were a little to agenda driven.
A Body to Die For by G A McKevett. This is a pen name for Sonja Massie. A quirky cast of favorite characters. Savannah has plenty of Southern charm but if that wont work she'll slap you side of the head with her gun.

A Face in the Window by Sarah Graves. A mystery set in Eastport, Maine. Graves web site is here: http://www.randomhouse.com/bantamdell/graves/index.html An exotic local this isn't, but very good stories. Much darker than most of the series but enjoyable reading.
Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce Her web site is here: http://www.tamora-pierce.com/ This is the second of her books about Becca Cooper. Rated as YA but don't let that stop you from reading both books.
Revenge of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz. Her web site is here: http://lisalutz.com/ Those wacky Spellmans are back. Proving once again that the family that detects together is in serious trouble.
Grave Goods by Ariana Franklin. Her web site is here: http://www.arianafranklin.com/ This is the third in the Mistress of the Art of Death series. A fascinating time in history, an engaging heroine and an English King, Henry II who really needs Arthur to be dead.

Another in the Maise Dobb's stories. Life moves on for Maise even as a spectacular suicide is the start of serious trouble for London. Terrorists are NOT a new thing.
The September Society by Charles Finch His web site is here: http://www.charles-finch.com/ A mystery set in mid-Victorian England. A good mystery and a likeable hero.
The Dangerous Book for DemonSlayers by Angela Fox Her web page is here: http://angiefox.wordpress.com/ Supernatural mayhem and fun. Don't take this book seriously. Just seriously enjoy it.
The Forthcoming Wizard by Jody Lynn Nye Her web site is here: http://www.sff.net/people/JodyNye/ The second book about wizard in training Tildi. A smallfolk who is neither small of heart or power. A Maker is searching for the Book. Will he find it before Tildi and her friends find him.
Storm Glass by Maria V Snyder Her web site is here: http://www.mariavsnyder.com/ This is set in the same world of magic as the Study series but with a different focus character. Glass has many magical properties.

This is an Honorverse book. That is, its set in the same universe with many of the same characters as the Honor Harrington series. She does make some brief appearances but this book focuses on Michele "Mike" Henke, and the thickening Manpower plot. (Note if you've not been keeping track this is only the 5th male author on this list.)
Undone by Rachel Caine This is her web site. http://www.rachelcaine.com/Home.html This is set in her weather warden universe. It focuses on different characters and seems to be running parallel to Ill Wind. A new series, a good read, but seriously now a pink haired, albino, former djinn biker chick?.
